Year End Giving

We've collected some tips & information for making donations using your IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
(QCD-Qualified Charitable Distributions).

  • Make sure you are eligible.
-You must be at least 70 ½ when you make the contribution
    -Other requirements and limits apply
-Check with your advisor or tax preparer to be sure!
  • Only traditional IRA (pre-tax contribution) funds are eligible for QCD.
  • Distributions must go directly from the IRA custodian to the charity. Contact your custodian or financial advisor for specific forms and instructions.
  • The custodian sends a check to the charity, so your account must have sufficient cash to make the contribution.
  • Make sure you as the donor are identified on the check stub for the charity.
  • The check must leave the account before the last day of the year, and many custodians are busy in December, so start early
If you need account information for either your RMD transfer or to transfer stock, please contact

Giving Appreciated Assets

We've collected some tips for making charitable gifts of appreciated assets.

There are specific limits for these gifts, depending on your tax situation. Check with your tax preparer before making this kind of gift.
  • Your gift should be all or a portion of a liquid asset, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds.
  • The account holding your asset will need instructions and/or forms to accomplish the transfer.
  • The asset transfer will occur from your account to the charity’s account “in kind”, with no sale
    occurring.
  • You will need to have the church’s brokerage account information to provide to your broker in
order to make the transfer. Check with the business office for this information.
  • The transfer will need to occur before the end of the calendar year for tax purposes.
  • Year-end transfers such as this can take extra time, due to heavy volume, so start early to ensure timely execution.
If you need account information for either your RMD transfer or to transfer stock, please contact Cristina Parcells, our Accounting Manager, at cristina.parcells@gracecommons.org

The Boulder Vision Project, or more poignantly For Boulder with Love, is the capital initiative of Grace Commons Church. It is rooted in our desire to be both a place and a people who show our love for Boulder in practical, life-giving ways.

For over 150 years, we have believed that our location in the heart of Boulder is a gift and an opportunity. Reflecting on the needs of our city, our goal is to improve our facilities so that we can create spaces where people can gather together on common ground.

To this end, we've embarked on a capital campaign to renovate our old preschool and children's wing to welcome Boulder families to a beautiful, updated preschool, and to transform two more venues: the Annex (our building diagonally across from the main campus) and our main campus.

If you're doing estate planning, giving to the Grace Commons Foundation is a wonderful way to support our church’s next 150 years of ministry in Boulder.

The Foundation is a Boulder-based independent foundation that works in close relationship with individuals, our church and other Christian organizations to support the growth of the Christian faith locally and across the world through the purposeful generosity of God's people. The Foundation can help donors with structuring gifts of securities, life insurance, real estate and many other types of planned giving to have beneficial tax advantages, while ensuring your gift lives on for generations to come.
