Human's Being

People may regard places, spaces or objects as sacred. While this may or may not be true, one thing is certain; the human beings we interact with day after day in ordinary circumstances are the most sacred objects presented to our senses. Each of us made in the image of our Creator, capable of consciousness, thought, creativity and love. Yet we pass each other by without a thought or worse yet we often devalue one another, especially those with whom we may feel “uncomfortable.” This piece is painted with a nod toward Byzantine holy icons presented for veneration. These are only a few representations of the sacred beings we call human. My hope is that they will inspire thought and conversation and we would ask ourselves, “if this is true, what sort of life am I to live?”

About the Artist

JEFF GAGLIARDI is of the opinion the term “Christian Art” is misplaced. There really isn’t art that’s not Christian! Creativity is a wonderful — even sacred—gift. Whether aware of it or not, when we engage in creativity we are in a very special relationship with God and reflect something of the Creator himself. Even if the art is dark, angry or what would be seen as vulgar or obscene, it still expresses something of our condition as humans and ultimately becomes part of the great drama of life. God is not surprised by it and has endowed us with the gifts for the purpose of using them. Creating visual art and playing music are a sacred time for to Jeff. He asks God to show him what to paint and to join him in the process. Jeff doesn't have a particular style because every painting seems to want to go its own way. He only wants it to glorify Him and spread that joy to others if he can. Making art is every bit an act of worship as any other we can conceive.
